Large Aluminum Extrusions
Increasingly large spans of glass
are a popular design feature but don't compromise on the structural
framing!
Architects and those in the glazing industry will agree.
Increasingly large spans of glass are a popular design feature but
also present many challenges when facing ever stringent energy
performance requirements. Changing technologies and product
development are certainly helping to achieve both the desired
aesthetic as well as the mandated performance features, but have
also forced glazing manufacturers to rely on thicker glass. In doing
so you have to make sure the framing system is designed to withstand
both wind and glazing loads.

Bonnell Aluminum's 5,500-ton state-of-the-art aluminum
extrusion press produces architectural-quality aluminum extrusions
up to 16 inches of width, an ideal capability that
meets the structural and aesthetic requirements for increasingly
large spans of glass.
Manufactured by Presezzi Extrusion (www.presezziextrusion.com)
in Milan Italy, this press combines the latest extrusion
manufacturing technology for producing large aluminum profiles
requiring high-quality surface finish. Utilizing a progression of
Kevlar and rubber belts, the specially-designed handling system was
manufactured by OMAV, Brescia Italy (www.omav.com), to meticulously handle for
maximum product quality, each aluminum profile exiting the press.
And as building owners and architects consistently seek for
larger areas and expanses of glass, the capabilities of this
5,500-Ton press are well suited in providing the ability to expand
and integrate aluminum extrusions' physical properties and
characteristics into the design of larger framing components.
Here are some of the many product applications using large aluminum extrusions:
- Curtain walls
- Impact & blast resistant commercial/institutional
windows & doors
- Commercial building sunshades
- Walkway covers and institutional canopies
- Commercial storefronts & entrance
- Modular framing
- Medical facility equipment
- Heatsinks and housing for LED lighting
- Electric power transmission & distribution units
